Our Path To Your Extinction...
An idea thought, to wipe out all those fakes out there and display a form of brutality not heard from many metal bands in our modern generation. One night over the fire pit, bassist Wolfgang Knauf, exhumed a grand idea to overthrow the weak and weary and caught the attentions of guitarist Hunter Tymich, and drummer Tony Aponte who are now along sides with this brutal force. They eventually found killer second guitar Luc Bassi ready to destroy and melt faces. Extinction will soon storm through the valley of the shadow of death, also called San Fernando Valley, and start our mass EXTINCTION to you all.

I started playing guitar about four years ago. I never really had much interest in playing an instrument until I began listening to metal. I had some exposure to bands like Slipknot at first. I really do have to give credit to them because I probably wouldn't have gotten into this shit other wise. My first exposure to true metal was when my friend Tyler suggested that I listen to Iron Maiden. From that point on Iron Maiden has remained my favorite band ever.
When I began playing guitar, all I had was an acoustic so I couldn't really learn many of the songs I wanted too. I remember learning the Trooper, and that was the first time I really felt somewhat accomplished. I began learning more and more things and slowly progressed to become the player that I am today.
When I first dove into metal I was listening to bands like Megadeth, Judas Priest, Slayer, etc. The first time I heard death metal, it was Spheres of Madness by Decapitated. I started listening to a lot more brutal music while at the same time listening to bands like Pink Floyd. The catchiness of thrash wasn't enough for me anymore. I need extremely brutal heavy music to satisfy my taste. At this point I was getting into bands like Deicide, Cannibal Corpse and Dying Fetus.
I always wanted to play guitar, but I also loved the idea of being a frontman, so when I had the opportunity to basically co-front Extinction, I took it right away and things have just been getting better and better since then.

It was in 2006 when I stumbled upon my very first bass. Simply taking out the trash one night brought us together. It was just laying there beside the dumpster... who the fuck would do that? Either way I brought that bass home and my love for playing bass began. My older brother introduced me to a lot of punk bands like The Adicts, Black Flag, Major Accident, Minor Threat, Lower Class Bratz, and so on which gave me a good start to the kind of music I listen to now. I'll never forget my good friend Elliot coming up to me at school and playing me Iron Maiden's "Prowler", and at that moment, I was sold. From there, I branched out to variety of metal bands like Testament, Exodus, Kreator, Overkill, Judas Priest, Anthrax, Deep Purple, Slayer and many others, but no album hit me more than Metallica's "Kill 'em All" album. I'm pretty sure I listened to that on repeat on my iPod for an entire month straight...
Being obsessed with both Steve Harris and Cliff Burton's insane way of playing really influenced my technique and the way I still play today. But after awhile my taste of music went a bit more heavier, listening to bands like Sepultura, Demolition Hammer, Death, Obituary, Deicide, Cancer, Pestilence, Gorguts, Atheist, and any other bands that showed as much brutality really.
Extinction actually started out as a side project of mine while I was in a band and I knew Luc at the time when he was in a band with Hunter. Luc lived right down the street from me also and we would hangout often, and we jammed one night just messing with riffs we've previously collaborated with Noah Young (Vengence) and Vicken Hovsepain (Chains of Atlas), and ended up writing the third track off our EP, "Code Orange". Later that year, Hunter and I started this band we called, Moshwitz, which was really just friends getting together and jamming for a day. But Hunter and I clicked and decided to part from Moshwitz and finally start my project, Extinction. Our friend Gavin who plays bass in the band Kronus decided to help us out and fill in the drummer position while we search. Funny thing when we finally got Tony to join us too, because way before I joined a band or anything I posted an ad on craigslist on a search for people to start a metal band with me and the one call I got happened to be that motherfucker. We jammed two or three times and I enjoyed jamming to some Megadeth with him but it never went anywhere. Two years later, what do you know, he happened to be good friends with Hunter and Luc while they were playing with their previous band, Dark Crusaders, and came to one of our practices and took the Gavin's position a week prior to our first show and we nailed it. Luc soon after joined Extinction and perfectly centered the band, giving us a fuller sound increasing the brutality to our songs.

I remember playing ACDC's Razors Edge on a little alarm clock/cd player and thinking "damn what are these noises they're making"? I would bang my head and play back Angus Young's solos over and over again. I never really thought about actually playing until I saw a VW car commercial that showed Slash (Guns N' Roses, Velvet Revolver) shredding on some blues licks. That just blew my mind and I instantly asked my mom for a guitar. Since I was left handed at a lot of things she figured I'd want a left handed guitar. Along with the guitar she got me Appetite for Destruction by Guns' N' Roses which is where I got my blues influence. Slash will always be in my top list of guitar players because how much his playing has influenced me. Though Guns I branched off into listening to Jimi Hendrix, Cream, Led Zeppelin, ZZ Top, The Offspring, The Doors, Van Halen and other rock bands. Everything changed when I listened to Metallica for the first time. Then I shot straight into a world of metal madness. Bands like Megadeth, Slayer, Children of Bodom, Iron Maiden, Lamb of God, Warbringer, Pantera, Machine Head, Skid Row, Exodus, Sepultura, Death, Black Sabbath and many others
I played in a few bands before I joined Extinction but those bands never opened me up to the metal community that is there and alive and well. Extinction seems like it is part of an actual music scene despite the deadness that is displayed at many shows I've been to. It's also great being in Extinction because I have known Hunter, Wolf and Tony for a long time, before Extinction was even a thought. It's cool how all of us went through different bands to come to this point where we can all say we can't wait for what the future has in store for us.

I remember when I was younger, my step dad brought home a pearl drum kit. I picked up sticks and was horrible at it. The first thing I ever learned was the beat to the George of the Jungle theme song. I understood it some what but was very lost, I was maybe about six years old. From there is when I started to listen to music that had actual instruments, I started with The Misfits, Metallica, Avenge SevonFold, and some Slayer. I payed attention to only the drum beats and would mimic them in the air. 9th grade was when I met a band called The Dark Crusaders. Hunter Tymich's previous band. Thats when I learned more about thrash, and different kinds of metal. The drummer of The Dark Crusaders gave me his old drum set for an exchange of my very old Pearl drum rack. Thats when I began to practice the drums for two hours every single day after school. I did that for about 2 years, and was in several bands during the time. I looked for bands in Craigslist and thats how Wolfgang, Extinctions bass player and I met. We jammed to Holy Wars by Megadeth and immediately clicked. Unfortunately he did not like the other two bands members and he went his separate way with Intruder, some old thrash band. I then joined Trimortis, a valley band that has been around for 3 years. I played lots of shows, and stayed with them for about 7 months. Then I started to lose the feeling of the band and thrash metal its self. I then left the band and just kept playing the drums.
One day, I went over to original Extinction practice, when it was just Hunter Tymich and Wolfgang Alexander and another drummer Gavin Dowd. I played two of their songs with them and they liked it a lot. A week later they told me their drummer dropped a gig and needed a drummer, they asked me to play the gig. I practiced with them for 2 days for 2 hours and learned their whole set in those two practices. We played the gig PERFECTLY. Thats when they wanted to have me in the band Extinction and I of course did not give up the offer. Ever since we have been playing awesome shows, getting new fans and our music is getting more and more complex. I really enjoy being in the band Extinction and I cannot wait for the world to hear us, because we will fucking blow their ear pussies away.
Equipment: Sound Percussion 5 piece drum set. Pearl double bass. Sabian Crash and Sabian ride.
